The largest pool of money among the 469 markets we track sits on a question most traders think will resolve no. "Will the U.S. invade Iran before 2027?" on Polymarket has drawn $74,632,969 in volume, yet it trades at 15¢. That gap between attention and conviction tells you something: people care intensely about this outcome while assigning it roughly a one-in-seven chance.
The rest of the volume leaderboard reinforces the pattern, though with far less plausible outcomes. Jesus Christ returning before 2027, LeBron James winning the 2028 presidency, and Oprah Winfrey or Bernie Sanders taking the 2028 Democratic nomination each trade at 1¢. These are longshots by any measure, and their $52 million to $66 million volumes reflect cheap lottery tickets and market-making churn rather than genuine belief.
The Iran market is different. With 74 days until it closes, every day without escalation should, all else equal, pull that number lower. If it holds steady or rises, traders are pricing in real risk that the calendar alone does not explain.
